The history of Hotel Colombo and the legacy of the Ciprotur Hotel Group
More than two decades later, the Hotel Colombo remains true to the essence with which it was born: a bright, welcoming and serene place, where every guest is received with the warmth that defines Azorean hospitality.
The hotel on the island of the sun
The Hotel Colombo opened its doors in 2004, in charming Vila do Porto, on Santa Maria Island, known as the island of the sun of the Azores.
Built in 2002, it was the third project of the Ciprotur Hotel Group, a family-origin hotel group founded in 1993.
With 87 rooms, including suites, apartments and family room types, the hotel was designed to welcome those seeking light, comfort and tranquillity — in a relaxed setting where time seems to slow down.
The light that inspires
At the Hotel Colombo, days are shaped by the unique brightness of Santa Maria and the golden tones of the sunset.
Between swims in the outdoor pool, afternoons in the garden and cocktails at the Bar Almagreira, time takes on a different rhythm — gentle, light and serene.
Each balcony is an invitation to gaze at the horizon and be embraced by the silence that only the Atlantic can hold.
Part of a family born from dreams
The Ciprotur Hotel Group was born from the vision of an Azorean couple who, in 1993, built their first hotel — the Hotel Ponta Delgada — with just 50 rooms and a great ambition: to welcome with authenticity.
Today, their children continue this mission, keeping alive the family tradition and the genuine sense of hospitality that defines the group.
The Hotel Colombo thus joins a family of four hotels in the Azores:

Antillia Hotel
